LITTLE ROCK DQU15 WI ON, PATRICK RY HAYS;` MAYOR MAYOR r CITY OF JACKSONVILLE CITY OF SHERWOOD TO MY SW N, ACK EVANS, MAYOR MAYOR -5- OF DIRECTORS COMMUNIC ''ION TO: MAYOR AWARD OF DIRECTORS FROM: TOM CIX SUBJECT: JAI ,I ERATION AGREEMENT - BETWEEN PULASKI COUNTY AND AREA CITIES DATE: JANUARY 18, 1990 Attached is the final draft of an operating agreement for a new County jail facility.. It represents a financial partnership arrangement between the cities and county. Pulaski County acknowledges jail operational responsibility, and the cities agree to assist in paying a portion of operating costs because of a declining County tax base. Each municipal share is-identified in a separate section. In the case-of Little Rock (Section 1), the annual share starts at $750,000 and increases by $100,000 every five years. Since the current operating costs of our city jail are already approaching $900,000, this agreement will represent a cost savings to Little Rock. Once a new facility is constructed, the City jail will be closed and the space renovated for other police uses. This agreement represents a win situation for everyone involved. The City Attorney will have two resolutions prepared for the next Board meeting: one to authorize the Mayor to sign this agreement, and the other to express the City of Little Rock's strong support of the one -cent sales tax to construct a new jail.
