3 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND LITTLE ROCK, ARK.
4 REV. CODE § 2- 273(a) (1988) TO MODIFY THE
5 NUMBER OF COMMISSIONER POSITIONS FROM
6 NOT LESS THAN FIFTEEN TO NOT LESS THAN
7 ELEVEN.

9 WHEREAS, the Little Rock, Arkansas Commission on Domestic Violence ( "the
10 Commission ") was created pursuant to Little Rock, Ark. Ordinance ( "LRO ") No. 16,704
11 (July 13, 1994) to consist of not less than fifteen (15) Commission members; and
12 WHEREAS, the Commission has periodically had numerous vacancies and needs
13 attendance sufficient to transact the business of the Commission; and
14 WHEREAS, the Commission determined that not less than eleven (11) Commission
15 members are sufficient to transact the business of the Commission; and
16 WHEREAS, on July 17, 2001, the Commission voted to recommend to the Board of
17 Directors that Little Rock, Ark. Rev. Code § 2- 273(a) be amended to reflect a Commission
18 membership of not more than eleven (11) members and a modification of the criteria for
19 representatives.
20 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
21 OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
22 SECTION 1. That Little Rock, Ark., Rev. Code § 2- 273(a) (1988) is hereby
23 amended to read as follows:
24 (a) The commission on domestic violence shall consist of not less than eleven
25 (11) persons and which shall, at all times, include the following representatives:
26 (1) One (1) person that serves as members of the board of directors;
27 (2) Reserved;
28 (3) Four (4) persons selected as at -large members;
29 (4) At least one (1) person that has directly suffered the effects of
30 domestic violence;
31 (5) Three (3) persons that have experience with support groups or advocacy
32 groups that deal with domestic violence;
33 (6) Two (2) persons that are employed by a health care facility.

Any number of additional persons as required by the commission and
approved by the board of directors.
The qualifications for such positions shall be reviewed by the domestic violence commission
prior to being presented to the City Board of Directors. The city manager is directed to
assure that city staff, including law enforcement personnel, shall be available to assist the
commission in the fulfillment of its purposes. In addition, the commission is encouraged to
seek advisory contacts with representatives of the prosecuting attorney's office and the local
judicial system.
