HomeMy WebLinkAbout182591 � RDINANCE NO. 18,259 • 495 2 3 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND LITTLE ROCK, ARK., REV. 4 CODE § 34 -43 (1988) TO AMEND CERTAIN MAXIMUM 5 TAXICAB METER RATES AND ADDITIONAL CHARGES; 6 AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 7 8 WHEREAS, current taxicab ceiling rates were established by the Transportation Code, 9 Little Rock, Ark., Ordinance No. 17,616 (November 18, 1997); and 10 WHEREAS, the Transportation Code states that the Board of Directors shall annually review 11 the maximum ceiling meter rates to determine the appropriateness of the rate; and 12 WHEREAS, taxi operating companies have operated at rates below the ceiling rate until 13 January 2000; and 14 WHEREAS, rapidly rising fuel costs, in addition to other operating costs, necessitates an 15 increase in the ceiling rate; and 16 WHEREAS, none of the taxicab operators intend to implement the proposed maximum 17 ceiling rate in the near future, barring further substantial fuel increases. 18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF 19 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 20 SECTION 1. Little Rock, Ark., Rev. Code § 34- 43(b)(1)a. (1988) shall be amended to 21 increase the initial meter charge from $1.50 to $2.00. 22 SECTION 2. Little Rock, Ark., Rev. Code§ 34- 43(b)(1)b. (1988) shall be amended to 23 increase the charge per mile from $1.25 to $1.60. 24 SECTION 3. Little Rock, Ark., Rev. Code § 34- 43(b)(2) (1988) shall be amended as 25 follows: 26 No more than Two Dollars ($2.00) per additional person shall be 27 charged. 28 29 SECTION 4. Little Rock, Ark., Rev. Code § 34- 43(b)(3) (1988) shall be amended to read 30 as follows: 31 Waiting time ceiling rate shall not exceed Twenty -two Dollars 32 ($22.00) per hour. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 SECTION 5. Severability. In the event any section, subsection, subdivision, paragraph, subparagraph, item, sentence, clause, phrase, or word of this ordinance is declared or adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional, such declaration or adjudication shall not affect the remaining provisions of this ordinance, as if such invalid or unconstitutional provision was not originally a part of this ordinance.
