HomeMy WebLinkAbout181070 I ORDINANCE NO. 18,107 626 2 3 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 22 -87 OF THE LITTLE 4 ROCK CITY CODE, 1988, TO CHANGE THE COMPOSITION OF 5 THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES PROMOTION COMMISSION; 6 AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 7 8 WHEREAS, The Arts and Humanities Promotion Commission ( "Commission ") was 9 created in 1986 with two appointees designated as members of the Board of Directors or their 10 designee; and 11 WHEREAS, the Board of Directors now appoints members as ex officio members of City 12 Boards and Commissions; and 13 WHEREAS, the Commission recommends that the Board change the Commission 14 membership to conform to that of other Boards and Commissions by deleting the current ordinance 15 language requiring two Board members or their designees, and designating a Board member to serve 16 ex officio, thereby creating a Commission of 9 members and one Board member serving ex officio; 17 and 18 WHEREAS, the effect of this change shall be implemented after the end of the current terms 19 of the Board member and the Board member designee in order to maintain consistent terms of 20 service. 21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF 22 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 23 SECTION 1. Section 22 -87 of the Little Rock City Code, 1988, is amended to read as 24 follows: 25 "The said commission shall consist of nine (9) members who shall be appointed by the board 26 of directors upon the recommendation of the city manager. The initial appointments to the 27 commission shall be for one -, two- and three -year terms and thereafter all appointments shall be for 28 a term of three (3) years or until a successor is qualified; provided no person shall be appointed for 29 more than two (2) consecutive full terms. The board of directors may appoint one of its members to 30 serve on the commission ex- officio." 31 SECTION 2. The Mayor's designee shall serve out his term ending December 31, 2000, as 32 authorized in Resolution No. 10,403. The current member of the Board of Directors who serves on this Commission is hereby appointed as the Board's ex officio member to the Commission effective immediately. The vacant position thereby created shall be advertised and applications taken for a three (3) year term.
