ORDINANCE NO. 17,730
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8 AND CHAPTER 12 OF THE LITTLE
ROCK CODE OF ORDINANCES, PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION BY
REFERENCE OF THE 1997 STANDARD BUILDING CODE WITH ARKANSAS
AMENDMENTS AND 1997 REVISIONS AND THE 1997 STANDARD FIRE
PREVENTION CODE WITH ARKANSAS AMENDMENTS AND 1997 REVISIONS,
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, Little Rock, Ar. Rev. Code 8- 28(A)(1) and 12- 28(A)(2) adopts by reference
the 1997 edition of the "Standard Building Code" with the most current Arkansas Amendments
and 1997 Revisions and Appendices "A ", "D ", "E ", "F ", "G ", "H ", and Little Rock, Ark.
Revised Code 8- 28(A)(2) and 12- 28(A)(1) adopts by reference the 1997 edition of the "Standard
Fire Prevention Code" with the most current Ark. Amendments and 1997 Revisions and
Appendices "A ", "B ", and "C ", both published by the Southern Building Code Congress
International, Birmingham, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, the City has complied with Ark. Code Ann. x 14 -55 -207 (1987) by
publishing a notice of intent to adopt these technical codes by reference in a paper of general
circulation within the municipality and three copies of codes have been available for inspection
in the City Clerk's office by the public prior to their adoption; and
WHEREAS, this ordinance amendment is necessary to update the City Code and
authorize the use of the 1997 edition within the city.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:

SECTION 1. Section 8 -28 of Little Rock, Ark. Rev. Code is hereby amended to read
as follows:
SECTION 8 -28 Building and Fire Prevention Codes Adopted.
(A) The following publications are adopted by reference:
L The 1997 "Standard Building Code" with the most current Arkansas
Amendments and 1997 Revisions and Appendices "A ", "D ", "E ", "F ", "G ",
2. The 1997 "Standard Fire Prevention Code" with the most current Arkansas
Amendments and 1997 Revisions and Appendices "A ", "B ", and "C ".
(B) In the event of a conflict between the publications in subsection (A), the more
stringent provisions shall govern.
(C) Notwithstanding the provisions of Sections (A) and (B) above, the City, consistent
with other provisions of state law, shall set the job qualification for its employees. No
job qualifications contained in the Standard Building Code or the Standard Fire
Prevention Code are adopted in any form whatsoever.
SECTION 2. Section 12 -28 of Little Rock, Ark. Rev. Code is hereby amended to read
as follows:

1. The 1997 "Standard Fire Prevention Code" with the most current Arkansas
Amendments and 1997 Revisions and Appendices "A ", "B ", and "C.
2. The 1997 "Standard Building Code" with the most current Arkansas
Amendments and 1997 Revisions and appendices "A ", "D ", "E ", "F ", "G ", "11".
(B) In the event of a conflict between the publications in subsection (A), the more

SECTION 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this provision are
