ORDINANCE NO. 17,717
AN ORDINANCE TO AUTHORIZE THE DEMOLITION
OF PROPERTY AT 1800 CUMBERLAND; TO
APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO PAY FOR SUCH
DEMOLITION; TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY; AND
FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, a recent fire at 1800 Cumberland resulted in a death and the virtual
destruction of the structure there; and
WHEREAS, the condition of this structure is so precarious that it is likely to topple
at any time, particularly during a thunderstorm or high wind common during this time of year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The City Manager is authorized to spend necessary funds from Account
Number 210 - 215 -0240 to pay the cost of the emergency demolition of property at 1800
Cumberland and to transfer these funds, if necessary, into Account Number 210 - 216 -0587.
SECTION 2. The City Attorney is authorized to seek any appropriate legal redress
for the costs of this demolition.
SECTION 3. EMERGENCY. The Board of Directors has been informed that this
property is in a particularly precarious condition and is likely to fall in at any moment. An
emergency is therefore declared to exist and the City is authorized to proceed with this
demolition, upon the completion of the best efforts of actual notice to the property owners,
and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage.
