AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND LITTLE ROCK, ARK.,
ORDINANCE NO. 16,498 (SEPTEMBER 26, 1993) TO
INCREASE THE SALARY FOR THE MAYOR; DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, the Board of Directors has asked the members of
the Future - Little Rock Governance Task Force to review the
various governance issues that were proposed and adopted
previously; and
WHEREAS, as a part of that review the recommendation has
been maintained that the position of Mayor should receive a
salary that is three times that of a member of the Board of
Directors; and
WHEREAS, as a part of the budget process the Board has
agreed to this recommendation and must now formally amend the
salary ordinance for Board members to accomplish this
recommendation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. Section 1(a) of Little Rock, Ark., Ordinance No.
16,498 (September 29, 1993), is hereby amended to read as
follows:
(a) The Mayor shall receive an annual salary of $36,000 to
be paid at the same time and in the same manner as all city
employees are paid beginning in fiscal year 1997;
Section 2. Emergency. It is essential to the public health,
safety and welfare to implement all budget ordinances and salary
ordinances at the same time in order to properly plan fiscal
matters for the coming year. An emergency is therefore declared
to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect on
the date in which the first fiscal 1997 salary increases are in
effect.
