ORDINANCE NO. 15,938
AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR A $0.25
PER TRIP TAXICAB FARE GASOLINE
SURCHARGE FOR SIXTY (60) DAYS OR
UNTIL A TAXICAB FARE RATE INCREASE
IS APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF
WHEREAS, taxicab fares were last increased in 1985; and
WHEREAS, the crisis in the Persian Gulf has significantly
increased gasoline prices; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors is willing to consider a
taxicab fare increase in the future; and
WHEREAS, a temporary $0.25 gasoline surcharge for each
taxicab fare is necessary to prevent significant operating
losses by the taxicab franchises and to keep taxicabs operating
in our City.
NOWT, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK:
SECTION 1. Section 34 -60 of the Little Rock City Code, 1988
is amended by adding a new subsection to read as follows:
(d) A surcharge of twenty -five cents ($0.25)
per trip may be charged for a period of up to
sixty (60) days or until a rate increase is
approved by the Board of Directors, whichever
comes first. This surcharge is contingent upon
Black and White Cab Company and Capitol Cab
Company not increasing drivers' operating
costs during the time the gasoline surcharge
is in effect.
SECTION 2. It is hereby determined that the public welfare
of the City requires viable taxicab companies, and that due to
the crisis in the Persian Gulf this surcharge is necessary to
allow such companies to continue operations. Therefore, an
Emergency is declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in
full force and effect immediately.
