AN ORDINANCE SETTING A DATE FOR AN ELECTION TO

FUND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 9-1 - -1 EMERGENCY

TELEPHONE SYSTEM AND TO PROVIDE A SERVICE CHARGE

TO FINANCE THE 9 -1 -1 EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SERVICE

SYSTEM AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

WHEREAS it has been determined to be in the public interest
10
to shorten the time and simplify the method required for a
11
citizen to request and receive emergency aid; and
12
WHEREAS the establishment of a uniform emergency telephone
y
13
number is a matter of concern for all citizens, so the emergency
14
number 9 1 1 has been made available at the national level for
15
implementation throughout the United States and Canada; and
16
WHEREAS the Arkansas legislature has established a funding
17
method for implementation of this emergency telephone system by
18
passing Act 683 of 1985; and
19
WHEREAS, this act requires the approval of a majority of
20
persons voting on the issue in order to charge up to five percent
21
(58) of the tariff rate approved by the Arkansas Public Service
22
Commission to be billed by AT &T or Southwestern Bell to local
23
users;
24
NOW. THEREFORE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
25
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK. ARKANSAS:

Section 1 An election will be held on Tuesday, November 4,
27
1986- for the purpose of approving or rejecting an ordinance to
28
implement 9 1 1 emergency telephone service within the City of
29
Little Rock;

Section 2 At the election to be held on that purpose the
31
voters will be asked to vote upon the following question:

FOR a 9.1 -1 emergency telephone system and Public
33
Safety Communications Center within the City of
34
Little Rock to be funded by a charge of up to
five percent (58) of the basic telephone tariff
35
approved by the Arkansas Public Service Commission_

AGAINST a 9 -1 - -1 emergency telephone system and Public
Safety Communications Center within the City of
Little Rock to be funded by a charge of up to
five percent (58) of the basic telephone tariff
approved by the Arkansas Public Service Commission
Section 3. All laws or parts of laws inconsistent herewith are
hereby repealed.
