HomeMy WebLinkAbout14639ORDINANCE NO. 14,639 AN ORDINANCE CONDEMNING CERTAIN BUILDINGS IN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK AS STRUCTURAL, FIRE AND HEALTH HAZARDS; DIRECTING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO TAKE SUCH ACTION AS IS NECESSARY TO RAZE AND REMOVE SAID BUILDINGS; DECLARE AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, certain buildings of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, have become run -down, dilapidated, unsightly, dangerous, obnoxious, and detrimental to the public welfare of the citizens of Little Rock; and WHEREAS, the conditions of these properties constitute a serious structural, fire and health hazard; and WHEREAS, immediate action is necessary to remedy this situation and said buildings should be razed either by the owners or the City of Little Rock. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. The owners of the following described properties are hereby ordered to raze and remove said buildings immediately upon the effective date of this Ordinance.. The Department of Public Works of the City of Little Rock will, immediately, attempt to notify the owners of the properties listed below of the passage of this Ordinance by certified mail. The conditions of the buildings of the above described properties are found to be a structural, fire and health hazard. SECTION 3. The City Attorney is hereby directed to institute legal proceedings against such persons as may be necessary in order to enforce the provisions of this Ordinance and to remedy the unsightly and dangerous conditions brought about as the result of the failure of the owners thereof to keep up this property. SECTION 4. The legal proceedings authorized in Section 3 hereof shall provide that if the building is not razed and removed in a certain period to be allowed by the Court, the City of Little Rock be authorized to raze said property and have a lien upon real estate for the cost of removing said buildings. SECTION 5. Unless the provisions of this Ordinance are put into effect immediately, the public peace, health and safety of the citizens of Little Rock will be adversely affected; therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
