HomeMy WebLinkAbout8343k -'V)_ A -7 i 1 2 RESOLUTION N0. 8,343 278 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS 4 DETERMINING THE NEED AND DESIRABILITY OF 5 EXPANDING THE EXISTING CIVIC - CONVENTION CENTER FACILITIES AND RECOMMENDING THE ACQUISITION OF 6 CERTAIN LANDS ADJACENT TO AND /OR IN THE IMMEDIATE 7 VICINITY OF THE EXISTING CIVIC - CONVENTION CENTER a FACILITIES, AND PRESCRIBING OTHER MATTERS 9 RELATING THERETO. 10 WHEREAS, the Advertising and Promotion Commission does 11 operate the Civic - Convention Center facilities in the City of 12 Little Rock, Arkansas; and, 13 WHEREAS, based upon the historical performance of said 14 facilities and the long range plan of the Advertising and Promotion Commission, the Commission has determined the need and 15 desirability of expanding the existing facilities in the future by 16 the acquisition of land adjacent to or in the immediate vicinity 17 of the existing facilities and the construction thereon of new and 18 additional civic - convention center facilities in order to better 19 serve the public and promote tourism in and about the environs of the City of Little Rock; and, 20 WHEREAS, the County of Pulaski, acting by and through its 21 County Judge and Quorum Court, has determined to sell and /or 22 dispose of the real property owned by the County in Blocks 1 and 23 2, Original City of Little Rock, commonly referred to as the "Y" site and the Wallace Building, which said properties are situated 24 adjacent to and in the immediate vicinity of the existing 25 civic - convention center facilities; and 26 WHEREAS, the Advertising and Promotion Commission is by 27 resolution requesting the Board of Directors to approve in 28 principle the aforementioned property so that detailed negotiations and studies may ensue. 29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF 30 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 31 SECTION 1: The Board of Directors of the City of Little 32 Rock hereby approves in principle the proposal of the County of 33 Pulaski to sell and transfer the "Y" site and Wallace Building to the City of Little Rock, said approval being given for the purpose 34 of proceeding with detailed negotiations and studies thereon. 35 36 k -'V)_ A -7 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 279 SECTION 2: The City Manager, City Attorney, Advertising and Promotion Commission and its staff and counsel are directed to proceed in structuring the proposed transaction and immediately engage in negotiations toward a contractual agreement with the County to effectuate the transfer of possession of the subject properties to the City. SECTION 3: This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption.
