NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. The Little Rock Private Industry Council is hereby authorized to fund the following program in the amount of $71,443.00 for Pathfinder, Inc.; $87,218.00 for the Little Rock School District - HIPPY Program; $150,000.00 for the Little Rock School District - Remediation Program; $5,000.00 for the Youth Competencies Program, $70,000.00 for the On- the -Job Training Program, $219,540.65 for the Classroom Training Program, $142,368.75 for Administration and $203,554.60 for the Participant Assistance. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Little Rock Private Industry Council met on May 18, and recommended expenditures in the amount of $603,201 as follows: Pathfinder - $ 71,443 LRSD - HIPPY - $ 87,218 LRSD - Remediation - $150,000 Youth Competencies - $ 5,000 On- the -Job Training - $ 70,000 Classroom Training - $219,540 The balance of $345,923 will be used as follows: Administration (JTPA) - $142,368 Participant Assistance - $203,554 TOTAL - $949,125 Pathfinder, Inc. - Occupational skills training to mentally or physical y handicapped persons, including certification, counseling, job development and placement. LRSD - HIPPY - Training for paraprofessionals to work with low- i— �'ncome mothers to teach them how to use learning materials at home with preschool youngsters. Participants will become teacher aides at the completion of nine months' training. LRSD - Remediation - Training for junior high students to work as peer tutors during the school year. The student tutors will work 6 hours per week at federal minimum wage under the supervision of teachers. Counseling will also be provided to the student tutors. ,� CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS �r Youth Competencies - Pre - employment skills training to youth 204 participants by JTPA staff. These skills include world -of -work awareness, labor market knowledge, occupational information, career planning, decision making and job search techniques. On- the -Job Training - Allows both private and public sector employers to have half the training cost defrayed for on- the -job training participants (both adults and youth). These participants will be hired by the employers who received the training dollars. Classroom Training - Institutional occupational training throug su contracting arrangements with area schools and training facilities. Books and tuition will be provided for adult and youth participants, but no allowance payments or stipends will be paid. TD:nw4
