HomeMy WebLinkAbout6766K, RESOLUTION NO. 6,766 A RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING EQUAL EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES AND POLICIES FOR THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock is committed to maintain- ing non - discriminatory employment practices and to insuring equal employment opportunities for everyone, and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors, as the elected leadership of the City of Little Rock, wishes to encourage all employers, whether public or private, to seek the elimination of any disparate treatment of employees because of their sex, race, color, age, religion, national origin, physical disabilities, veteran status, or Vietnam War status. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. The Board of Directors for the City of Little Rock reaffirms the personnel policies adopted by Ordinance No. 12,915 appended hereto and restates its firm commitment to the insurance of equal employment opportunities for all employees without regard to sex, race, color, age, religion, national origin, physical disabilities, veteran status, or Vietnam War status. SECTION 2. The Board of Directors for the City of Little Rock earnestly solicits the support of every employer, whether public or private, to this commitment and encourages their part- icipation in an effort to affirmatively seek the elimination of all disparate treatment of employees, because of sex, race, color, age, religion, national origin, physical disabilities, veteran status, or Vietnam War status. SECTION 3. The Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption and approval. ADOPTED: March 31, 1982 ATTEST: pw_� ity Clerk i APPROVED: (/ Mayor v 1. • _ oil, M M M M �RDINANCE NO. 12,915 Exhibit to Res. #6,766 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING NON- 51 DISCRIMINATORY AND EQUAL EMPLOY- MENT PERSONNEL POLICIES FOR THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock is committed to the concept of equal employment opportunity without regard to non -merit factors as race, color, sex, national origin, age and political and regligious opinions or affiliation, and WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock believes that this commitment should be supported by positive practical efforts to employ minority group members and women on a non- discriminatory basis, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. It shall be the policy of the City of Little Rock to comply with the non - discrimination provisions of all State and Federal laws and regulations, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of L 1964, as amended by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972, by , assuring that efforts to recruit, hire and promote in all job classifi- cations will be conducted on a non - discriminatory basis. SECTION 2. It shall be the policy of the City of Little Rock that all other personnel actions including regular compensation, benefits, transfers, layoffs, training, education and tuition assistance will be conducted without regard to race, color, sex,'political or religious opinions or affiliations, national origin, age, or physical disabilities except where age, sex or physical requirements constitute bona fide occu- pational qualifications. o SECTION 3. It shall be.,.the policy of the City of Little Rock to affirmatively seek solutions to problems of equal employment opportunity within its City government and all employees and potential employees shall be informed of their civil rights including the right to complain regarding employment and personnel practices. SECTION 4. The City Manager, Department Heads, and all persons responsible for employment and personnel practices are directed to: (a) Exercise judgement in the implementation of this policy and not employ tactics designed to circumvent its spirit and intent, (b) Assure that all employees under their supervision are informed of this policy and procedures to be used for identifying dis- criminatory practices, 5 (c) Assure that all supervisors under their jurisdiction are thoroughly familiar with the requirements for equal employ- ment opportunity, (d) Develop and maintain affirmative action plans for their areas of responsibility including the establishment of goals and timetables for accomplishment -- SECTION-'S— Thi- s'-ordinance shall be on full force and effect from and after its passage, PASSED: April 2, 1974 Attest: CiVy Clerk G� Mayoi t
