A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JOHN PAUL HAMMERSCHMIDT
FOR HIS EFFORTS IN OBTAINING APPROVAL AND FUNDING
FROM THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS FOR LITTLE ROCK'S
PLAN 7 FLOODWAY PROJECT FOR ROCK CREEK PARKWAY.
WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock has expressed its
paramount concern over the serious problems caused by the
continuous flooding of the Fourche Bayou over the last several
years; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable John Paul Hammerschmidt, Third
District Congressman from Arkansas, has continously expressed his
strong interest and concern about the need for funding to control
the flooding problems on the Fourche Bayou; and
WHEREAS, due to the diligent and tireless efforts of the
Honorable John Paul Hammerschmidt, $314,000.00 has been included
in President Reagan's fiscal year 1985 budget package for
completion of the planning and engineering studies on the Fourche
Bayou Project; and
WHEREAS, due to John Paul Hammerschmidt's constant
expression of support, the Army Corps of Engineers has
recommended authorization for funding and construction of Little
Rock's Plan 7 Floodway Project; and

WHEREAS, due to the efforts of the Honorable John Paul
Hammerschmidt authorization for said construction is recommended
in the Administration's proposed Omnibus Water Resources
Development Act of 1985.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Board of Directors of City of Little
Rock wishes to express its endearing thanks to the Honorable John
Paul Hammerschmidt, Third District Congressman of Arkansas, for
his unselfish dedication and tireless and diligent efforts in
support of the funding necessary for the completion of Little
Rock's Plan 7 Floodway Project so as to bring under control the
serious flooding problems on the Fourche Bayou and thereby
protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Little
Rock.
