5 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A FIVE
6 YEAR EXTENSION OF THE INTERLOCAIi`AGREEMENT
7 BETWEEN THE CITIES OF LITTLE ROCKAND NORTH LITTLE
8 ROCK, ARKANSAS TO ALLOW METROPOLITAN EMERGENCY
9 MEDICAL SERVICES ( "MEMS ") TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE
10 EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AND NON - EMERGENCY
11 ROUTINE TRANSPORTS IN NORTH LITTLE ROCK PURSUANT
12 TO AN EXCLUSIVE FRANCHISE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

14 WHEREAS, the Cities of Little Rock and North Little Rock have, beginning on September
15 15, 1986, previously executed, by their Mayors, Interlocal Agreements awarding an exclusive
16 franchise to Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services to provide emergency service and non -
17 emergency routine transport ambulance service to North Little Rock citizens; and
18 WHEREAS, these interlocal agreements have furthered the governmental objective of both
19 cities to provide high quality Advanced Life Support (ALS) and routine transport ambulance service
20 to citizens; and
21 WHEREAS, the current five year interlocal agreement expires in August, 2001 and the cities
22 desire to extend such interlocal agreement for an exclusive franchise for an additional five years,
23 effective August 1, 2001.
24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
25 THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
26 SECTION 1. In order for the Little Rock Ambulance Authority, d/b /a Metropolitan
27 Emergency Medical Services ( "MEMS ") to continue the delivery of all ambulance services pursuant
28 to an exclusive franchise in the City of North Little Rock, Arkansas, the Board hereby authorizes the
29 execution of a five (5) year extension of the Interlocal Agreement with the City of North Little Rock,
30 Arkansas, effective August 1, 2001. Upon the expiration of the five year term, the Board authorizes
31 a month -to -month extension until a formal extension is approved by both cities.
