HomeMy WebLinkAbout10413M 1 RESOLUTION NO. 10,413 550 2 3 A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO DRAFT 4 AND THE CITY MANAGER TO SEEK PASSAGE OF ENABLING 5 LEGISLATION FROM THE ARKANSAS STATE LEGISLATURE 6 DURING THE 1999 ARKANSAS GENERAL ASSEMBLY SESSION 7 FOR THE PURPOSE OF GRANTING THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK 8 THE AUTHORITY TO EXECUTE A SUBSTANTIALLY 9 EQUIVALENT FAIR HOUSING ORDINANCE. 10 11 WHEREAS, The Mayor, in his 1998 State of the City address, directed the Racial 12 & Cultural Diversity Commission to bring forth a substantially equivalent fair housing 13 ordinance to the City Board of Directors; and 14 WHEREAS, The Racial & Cultural Diversity Commission, through its responsible 15 work has discovered legal barriers which prevent the document's completion; and 16 WHEREAS, The City Board of Directors commits itself to considering a 17 substantially equivalent fair housing ordinance. 18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS 19 OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 20 SECTION 1. The City Attorney is directed to draft enabling legislation which will 21 grant the City of Little Rock the authority to execute a substantially equivalent fair housing 22 ordinance. 23 SECTION 2. The City Manager is directed to seek passage of enabling legislation 24 which will grant the City of Little Rock the authority to execute a substantially equivalent 25 fair housing ordinance. 26 SECTION 3. The City Attorney and the City Manager are expected to work closely 27 with the Fair Housing Committee of the Racial & Cultural Diversity Commission to ensure 28 that the legislation reflects what is needed to complete the document. 29 SECTION 4.
