PARCEL OF LAND AND FOR THE CITY ATTORNEY TO

INSTITUTE EMINENT DOMAIN PROCEEDINGS TO ACQUIRE

LAND FOR A POLICE SUBSTATION IN THE RIVER MARKET

WHEREAS, the Little Rock Police Department currently occupies a kiosk on Lot 12,

Block 1, Pope's Addition within the River Market on East Markham Street; and

WHEREAS, the steady increase in pedestrian and business traffic has created the need

for an alternative location for the kiosk and additional officers; and
13
WHEREAS, the City has identified a parcel of land across Markham Street from the
14
current site as an appropriate location for the new substation at the northeast corner of Lot 6
15
at Markham and Commerce Streets; and
16
WHEREAS, the City has attempted to negotiate for the purchase but the owner of the
17
selected site has requested the City to institute eminent domain proceedings to condemn the
18
site in order to take immediate possession.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF

DIRECTORS:

SECTION 1. The City Attorney is hereby authorized to institute eminent domain
22
proceedings to condemn a parcel of property in the River Market on Lot 6, Block 8, Pope's
23
Addition legally described on Exhibit "A" attached hereto.

SECTION 2. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its
25 adoption.
