HomeMy WebLinkAbout10131RESOLUTION NO. 10,131 A RESOLUTION OF INTENT TO CREATE A REDEVELOPMENT DISTRICT WITH DESIGN OVERLAY FEATURES FOR UNIVERSITY FROM INTERSTATE -30 TO ASHER AVENUE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, economic development from Asher Avenue South to Interstate -30 is important to the City; and WHEREAS, some persons are trying to redevelop businesses in this area, but find that certain marketing aspects of this effort are stymied by current City ordinances; and WHEREAS, a planned approach to redevelopment including aspects of a design overlay district and a redevelopment plan, if possible, would be beneficial to the City; and WHEREAS, the Board wishes to express its intent to create such a district and to encourage discussions between the City and the business owners in this district. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. The Board of Directors states its intent to create a redevelopment district, with design overlay features, along the corridor from Asher Avenue to Interstate -30, and encourages City staff to work with the property owners in the area to develop a plan for such a district. SECTION 2. During the development of this plan, but for a period not to exceed 120 days from the adoption of this resolution, the Director of Planning & Development, may permit a temporary waiver of the requirements of City sign ordinances as a means of experimentation with ideas that property owners believe would assist in the redevelopment of this area, provided that such a waiver is applied for by a property owner, or the owner's -1- M 5 ,9I 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 designated representative, is granted in writing, and shall be in effect for no more than the 120 days set forth in this section.
