HomeMy WebLinkAbout9829r � � 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 Im 0 0 RESOLUTION NO. 9,829 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY 6 3 1 MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONTRACT WITH MCGLINCHEY STAFFORD LANG, FOR THE PURPOSE OF AUTHORIZING TOTAL LEGAL EXPENDITURES UNDER THE CONTRACT TO EXCEED THE $20,000 MAXIMUM. WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock is required by Ark. Code Ann. § 14- 51- 206(b) (Michie Supp. 1995) to hire, on an annual basis, independent legal counsel to represent the City when the City's managerial employment decisions are brought for review before the Little Rock Civil Service Commission; and WHEREAS, the City is currently under contract with the law firm of McGlinchey Stafford Lang to provide legal services pursuant to the statute referred to above in an amount not to exceed $20,000 during calendar year 1996; and WHEREAS, due to the complexity of several cases and an overall increase in the number of cases presently pending before the Commission during the remaining months in calendar year 1996, the total legal costs, based upon the reasonable hourly rates of counsel, will likely exceed the $20,000 maximum anticipated in the existing agreement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS. SECTION 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into an amendment to the current contract with McGlinchey Stafford Lang in order to permit the total expenditures to exceed the $20,000 maximum called for in the current agreement with the firm. SECTION 2. In order to carefully monitor the outside legal costs, all additional expenditures above the $20,000 maximum must be approved by the City Manager.
