HomeMy WebLinkAbout9678.214 RESOLUTION NO. 9,678 A RESOLUTION TO DECLARE MAY 15, 1996 FITNESS DAY AND TO DECLARE THE MONTH OF MAY FITNESS MONTH FOR THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK. WHEREAS, May has been designated as National Physical Fitness Month by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and May 15 as National Employee Fitness Day; and WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation promotes a variety of physical fitness and sports programs for youths, adults and senior citizens; and WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation educates young people concerning the essential nature of physical activity and its relationship to health, physical fitness and a more dynamic productive life; and WHEREAS, a recent report by the National Institute of Health concluded that about half of all Americans get no regular exercise; and that physical inactivity is associated with heart attacks, strokes, osteoporosis, diabetes, some cancers and other health effects; and WHEREAS, industrial experts have concluded fitness and wellness programs increase productivity and decrease absenteeism; and . WHEREAS, the U. S. Health Care Financing Administration says that health care costs could be reduced as much as 22% through effective wellness and fitness programs; and S {� WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation Community Centers have made a commitment to encourage regular, vigorous exercise which is essential to physical and emotional development, which entitles you to good health and happiness throughout life. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1: The month of May is declared Fitness Month for the City of Little Rock and May 15, 1996, is declared City Hall Fitness Day.
