WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 16,674 included an appropriation of $3,000,000 for FUTURE - Little Rock recommended development of a new Museum of Science and History; and WHEREAS, the Museum staff have recommended a budget for preliminary planning and concept development costs for 1996. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. _The City Manager is hereby authorized to allocate $314,671 appropriated for development of a new Museum of Science and History in accordance with the budget attached to this Resolution. ADOPTED: January 16, 1996 ATTEST: APPROVED AS TO FORM: APPROVED: 37 ARKANSAS MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND HISTORY 1996 REQUEST FOR ALLOCATION OF FUNDING FOR THE NEW MUSEUM I. EXHIBIT CONSTRUCTION SHOP - ■ $47,200 for necessary tools, fixtures and support equipment to fabricate exhibit components "in- house" in preparation for the Museum's relocation. II. WORK FORCE - $112,455 ■ $25,459 for the Director of Exhibits to design and construct exhibits. ■ $17,799 for the Director of Collections and Operations for research, scripting, artifacts and management of the Science Quest exhibit. ■ $6,218 for the Director of Programs to research, script, and plan the native american and world cultures exhibits. ■ $1,958 for the Life Science Educator to develop the planning of the forest exhibit. ■ $33,982 for the Science & Technology Project Director to develop research, scripting and prototyping of the new museums programs and exhibits, including light and color, electricity and magnetism, science game, communications, machines and robots, and structures. ■ $12,886 for the Exhibit Fabricator for working in wood, plastics, and metal to construct cases, panels and other exhibit units. ■ $14,153 for the Exhibit Technician for working with electronics, mechanical devices, computers and other devices. III. RESEARCH AND MATERIALS - $6,400 ■ $2,400 for research trips to other museums and professional conferences. ■ $4,000 for books, computer software and materials. • • 39 IV. NEW EXHIBITS - $91,000 ■ $50,000 for developing, designing, and fabricating a new 3,500 square foot exhibit called The Science Quest. ■ $36,500 to provide a prototype venue to present visitors with a preview of the Museum's new direction and new exhibitions - The Experimental Gallery. ■ $4,500 for purchase of a "pop up" trade shop type display to use for promoting the new facility at conferences, community fairs and meetings. V. COMPUTER SYSTEM - ■ $57,616 - for installation of a new software and hardware computer system to establish the operating systems of fundraising, reservations, admission, sales, and other operations and data collection records.
