RESOLUTION NO. 9,425
A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR
RELOCATING THE BEACONS SCHOOL
INITIATIVE TO SOUTHWEST JUNIOR HIGH
SCHOOL, TO DECLARE SUCH SERVICES
ffPROFESSIONAL SERVICES" PURSUANT TO
ACT 429 OF 1995, DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO CONTINUE THE DEVELOPMENT
OF AN IMPLEMENTATION PLAN IN
PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LITTLE ROCK
SCHOOL DISTRICT AND VARIOUS OTHER
ORGANIZATIONS; AND FOR OTHER
PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Little Rock Board of Directors continues to
support the development of quality programming for the youth of
our City; and
WHEREAS, the Little Rock Board of Directors continues to
promote the development of collaborative efforts with the Little
Rock School District and various other community -based
organizations; and
WHEREAS, the City supports the utilization of existing
resources, i.e., public school facilities, to develop
community -based initiatives that strengthen school, family and
community linkages; and
WHEREAS, the Beacons School is a comprehensive,
neighborhood -based safe haven for children and family support,
located in public school buildings and operated by
community -based organizations; and
WHEREAS, Southwest Junior High School has been approved by
the Little Rock School Board of Directors as the new Beacons
site.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:

SECTION 1. The Board of Directors supports the
recommendations of the Steering Committee and directs the City
Manager to continue the development of an implementation plan.
SECTION 2. The City Board declares that the operation,
advertisement and marketing of a Beacon School Program is a
professional service that should be selected on the basis of
demonstrated competence and qualifications for the type of
service required, as opposed to being selected based solely upon
cost.
