AWARD CONTRACTS FOR ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES AND

CONSTRUCTION AND EXHIBIT DESIGN FOR A NEW MUSEUM OF

SCIENCE AND HISTORY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 16,674 included an appropriation of $3,000,000 for
12
FUTURE - Little Rock recommended development of a new Museum of Science and
13
History; and
14

WHEREAS, Special Project Account 210 - 230 -0332 was established to provide the
16
funds for building renovation costs related to the development of the new museum; and
17
is
WHEREAS, a request for proposals was issued for architectural services to the
19
Museum. Five responses were received and reviewed by a selection committee and two
20
companies were invited to make oral presentations. AMR was then recommended to
21
renovate 43,000 square feet of interior space in the Terminal Building (Museum
22
Building), and to provide programming of museum spaces, and coordination of the
23
master plan for all spaces including exhibits, including planning for future expansion; and

WHEREAS, a request for proposals was issued to provide exhibit design services
26
for the development of Exhibit Master Planning and Design services for the Museum's
27
new facility at the Terminal Building in downtown Little Rock. Five companies

responded, and two were picked by the selection committee to make oral presentations.

The team of Joe Sonderman, Inc. & Lester Associates, Inc. was recommended to
31
provide the consultant services; and

WHEREAS, the Arkansas Museum of Science and History desired to include a
33
34
specific exhibit entitled "The Science Game" at their new location. Since this exhibit was
35
developed by the Cumberland Science Museum of Nashville, Tennessee, and is a unique
36
product, they were selected to duplicate this exhibit.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to award a contract to
AMR for architectural services and allocate 7.5% times the cost of construction as basic
compensation for building renovation, and $20,000 to AMR to provide programming of
museum spaces, and coordination of the master plan for all spaces involving exhibits,
including planning for future expansion in the development of a new Museum of Science
and History.
SECTION 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to award a contract and
allocate $80,500 (contract fee $68,000 and out -of- pocket expenses $12,500) to the team
of Joe Sonderman, Inc. & Lester Associates to provide exhibit design services for the
development of Exhibit Master Planning and Design services for the Museum's new
facility at the Terminal Building in downtown Little Rock.
SECTION 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to award a contract and
allocate $17,418 to the Cumberland Science Museum to construct "The Science Game"
exhibit.
