A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE RIVER
PROJECT AND SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF A
TEMPORARY ONE CENT COUNTYWIDE SALES
TAX TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FUNDING
FOR THE PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the River Project includes the development of a
new multi purpose arena /civic center and an expanded convention
center on the banks of the Arkansas River; and
WHEREAS, the River Project will provide all our state's
citizens with a new cultural and entertainment complex in the
state capitol area; and
WHEREAS, the River Project will be a catalyst for expanded
economic development and job creation throughout Central
Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, the River Project will be possible through a
special funding partnership between the State of Arkansas,
Pulaski County and private enterprise; and
WHEREAS, the River Project has created a new sense of unity
and spirit of cooperation among various groups and individuals
throughout Central Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, the River Project will require passage of a
temporary, one cent countywide sales tax for a portion of its
funding.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The City Manager and Board of Directors of the
City of Little Rock hereby endorse the River Project and the
passage of a temporary one cent countywide sales tax to provide
additional funding for the project.
SECTION 2. This resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption.
