RESOLUTION NO. 9,246
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR SCOTT
BROWNELL AND JAKE HAGAR FOR THEIR HEROIC
EFFORTS ON AUGUST 31, 1994, TO SAVE THE
LIFE OF ONE CHILD AND THEIR ATTEMPT TO
SAVE THE LIFE OF ANOTHER CHILD.
WHEREAS, on August 31,'.1994, there was a severe
thunderstorm in the Little Rock area that caused drainage
ditches within the City to fill with rushing water; and
WHEREAS, on that date Scott Brownell and Jake Hagar,
students at the University of Arkansas at Little 'Rock, heard the
screams for help from Cecilia Griffen after she and her sister,
Versie Mitchell, fell into a creek filled with swift rushing
water while on their way home from school; and
WHEREAS, with no regard for their personal safety Mr.
Brownell and Mr. Hagar went into the rushing water and saved the
life of Miss Griffen; and
WHEREAS, this heroic action represents the very finest
qualities of any individual and is worthy of special
recognition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1: The Board of Directors of the City of Little
Rock, Arkansas, expresses its thanks, gratitude and admiration
to Scott Brownell and to Jake Hagar for outstanding
contributions at no regard for personal safety in saving the
life of Miss Cecilia Griffen on August 31, 1994.
