RESOLUTION NO. 9,044
A RESOLUTION NOTING THE BOARD OF
DIRECTORS ENDORSEMENT OF THE FORT
LINCOLN PROJECT; AND FOR OTHER
PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Arkansas Department of Parks, Tourism, and
Recreation is making a decision regarding land condemnation of the
40 acre Fort Lincoln property in DeValls Bluff, Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, officials of the City of Little Rock have been
involved with the Fort Lincoln project from the start and consider
this an important future regional tourism concept that is good for
the best interest of Eastern Central and all of Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, the Fort Lincoln project has made Arkansas the
first Southern state to adopt an official project in honor of
President Abraham Lincoln and the ending of the human slavery in
America. Fort Lincoln is one of the single most important
historical sites in our nation commemorating freedom for all
people; and
WHEREAS, Fort Lincoln has the potential to attract as many
as 500,000 visitors from I -40 each year. This economic benefit
will be a wonderful benefit to Arkansas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Board endorses the proposal now being
considered by the Arkansas Department of Parks, Tourism, and
Recreation regarding Fort Lincoln because historical and public
interest in Fort Lincoln should be protected and shared with all
future generations.
