RESOLUTION OF INTENT CONCERNING THE POSITIONS TO BE ELECTED SHOULD THE CITY REORGANIZE THE MANAGER GOVERNMENT ON JULY 27, 1993; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, has scheduled an election for July 27, 1993, on whether to adopt a new manager form of government; and WHEREAS, if this reorganization occurs it will be necessary for the City to hold a special election, probably the first week in November, to elect four additional members; and WHEREAS, the City is sensitive to the recommendation of the Future - Little Rock Steering Committee that the ward representation and a directly elected Mayor be accomplished as soon as possible; and WHEREAS, after looking at several possibilities the Board has determined that it is not possible to elect all seven ward positions and the Mayor before 1996; and WHEREAS, the Board believes that significant ward representation is desirable now. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Board of Directors, if called upon to do so, to adopt an ordinance that sets the elections of representatives to the Board of Directors under the plan to be voted upon July 27, 1993, as follows: (a) In November, 1993, four new positions will be selected from wards; three of these wards will represent Southwest Little Rock, the East end of Little Rock, and the inner City of Little Rock, to the extent that ward boundaries permit such representation; (b) In November, 1994, in addition to the reelection of. these four wards, two ward representatives and a directly elected Mayor shall be elected; (c) In November, 1996, three at -large positions and one ward position shall be elected. SECTION 2. The City Attorney is directed to draft an appropriate ordinance to fulfill this stated intent and to present this ordinance to the Board for adoption as soon as possible after a successful election on July 27, 1993.
