RE: Demolition of 1312, 1320, 1322 and
1324 Rock Street and 314 E. 14th Street
Dear Molly:
My staff has reviewed the above referenced proposal and determined that 1312, 1320, 1322, and
1324 Rock Street have deteriorated to the point where they have become a safety hazard and no
longer contribute to the MacArthur Park Historic District. Although we hate to see demolition
take place within a historic district and, in general, do not support this activity, these four
structures have been neglected to the point where there is no other recourse.
The house at 314 E. 14th Street, however, still contributes to the district and retains several
distinguishing original characteristics such as its two over two windows and decorative shingle
work in the front gable. Although severely deteriorated, our office feels it should be retained
and rehabbed as a model for the neighborhood.
If you have questions concerning this transmittal, please contact Randy Jeffery of my staff at
324-9880.
Sincerely,
Cathy Bu Slater
