Re: 1020 Rock
Dear Mrs. Core,
In follow-up to our phone conversation ycsteaday, I would Iike to acknowledge the
unfortunate chain of events that resulted in your request for a demolition Certi, tcate of
Appropriateness from the Little Rack Historic District C.O mnliz -M I understand brat vau have
suffered a major setback in yottr re4.rerrent plans, but hope that you will still find comfort in
;flaking forward to retumirg to Little Rack. You and yout husband have contributed tv the
ievitalizarian of the dowrito%m area. I hope that you will be able to enjoy the benefits of the
community's continuing econornic recovery when, you return.
1 appreciate your concern about potential liability associated with ownersliip of a fumed
structure that could be at rsk of collapsing. You have taken steps to minimize that risk by
fencing off access to the property and by seeking permission to demolish the structure. In light
of the appamm risk and your coucrms, Iwill do a31 that I can to help you expedity this process,
but I can only request that staff enco:z<-age he Commission to hold a special r1octing, please
understand lUt I cannot actually call the meeting.
The current Little Rock Historic District Commission members take their historic
preservation responsibilities very seriously. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I suspect that
The Carzutiission members will want to discus the possibility of saving the building since it has
historic sigr?afcarrce to the community. Pm sure that you will be well preparers to present the
engineering and architemtural basis for your demolition request — but please -allow the
Commission to feel that they have explorrd altetvatives to demolition. Although they could not
possibIv know the full extent of your disappoi.ntamerat, I am sure that they will consider the
demolition of your building to be a gad and most unrortanate loss to the District.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact me or Brian Minyard.
Sincerely,
( .w.
