I have proposed (at a greater expense) an 8 foot fence, which is aesthetically pleasing, unifies the two commercial buildings and provides an additional measure of security, and will cut down on noise as well. Noise/Security-Safety/Privacy Issues: Noise High traffic - 11th is the nearest through street next to the freeway; it is a thorough -fair for traffic. No stop sign for east/west bound traffic. We have a lot of drivers that don't slow down for the dip in the road and therefore leave gouges and scrapes from the metal undercarriage of their car dragging the ground. PICTURE Bus line — 1 lth & Rock serves as a bus stop for multiple bus lines — east bound and west bound. Runs Pre 7 AM to approx 11 PM. Local traffic utilize 1 Ith to get from Warehouse Liquor on Main to McArthur Park. Local traffic tends to drive with their windows down and music turned way up. Security -Safety I would like to know I have kept my property and myself from being a target as much as possible. There is a trade-off to living downtown. I know, I have personal experience; I've been a resident and property owner since 1977. Here are some examples of my experiences: This is not a complete list. Comical Examples: Food stolen off the grill while it is being cooked Chasing your 40' extension ladder down the street at 2 in the morning in your pajamas. (Not a good idea though). Anno n Disturbin Examples: Having to chain your porch furniture to the porch rail Not being able to leave your lawn mower, weed eater, or rake unattended for just a few minutes. Not being able to leave your garage door open at any time. Having your garden hoses stolen while they are in use (happened multiple times). Picking up a trash sack of empty liquor bottles and fast food cups/wrappers every week. Since we planted the crape myrtles between the sidewalk and street, the local foot traffic has been throwing the trash over the fence. (I blamed the workmen at first). Running off car thieves trying to steal your car (multiple times); windows broken out. Having your cars stolen 4 times Having both your cars vandalized: missing antennas, two tires on each car slashed, your convertible top slashed — but not feeling so bad because everyone else on the street got hit too. M A Little Scary: Having your bicycle stolen off your front porch after you ran inside, left the door open, to answer the phone 10' away. Weeks later, following your bicycle and the rider through downtown after finding it at the neighborhood grocery store — and it rides past your house ... the neighbors help you retain the suspect until the police arrive. Having your purse stolen off your dining room table because you didn't bolt the door behind you (won't do that again) and you are in the next room. Having your house burglarized (multiple times) Having your house burglarized after you put in an alarm system and you own a dog — big one and he was there. Vert/scary: Standing in your living room surveying the broken window glass, checking your dog for broken bones/cuts, etc because he's been attacked defending your property, listing the missing items, when your stolen car drives by the front of your house and stops — they've come back for more.... Finding strangers in your garage because you left the door up for more than just a few minutes. Frightening_ Personally knowing three women that have been raped in my neighborhood. Two were raped in their homes (one was also abducted) and one was raped in the park. Susie was later murdered..... Privacy: I would like to be able to sit on my back patio and enjoy my yard, but I won't be able to because every passenger on the bus can see me in my pajamas. Anyone passing by on foot can easily see over the fence and through it. The yard has a 2' slope over 50 feet. I will be able to stand on my patio and see over a 6' fence. My patio furniture won't even be safe. The first step in preventing crime is preventing opportunity. But I still want to live downtown. Recommend an 8' fence to the Board of Adjustment.
