Our field observances indicate that front steps were modified or installed without a current building permit and approval of the Historic District Commission. Modification or installation of steps does require a Certificate of Appropriateness ("COX) from the Historic District Commission. Please accept this letter as formal notice that construction activity at 1009 Rock Street was carried out in violation of state law requiring that at ("COX) be obtained prior to making alterations to a structure located in a local ordinance historic district. Our records indicate that step modification/installation were installed in violation of this COA requirement. To bring your property into compliance with state law, you must either restore the original materials to the structure or obtain a COA from the Little Rock Historic District Commission by making application to the Historic District Commission via the Planning and Development Department at 723 West Markham. The next filing deadline is January 6, 2006 at 5:00 pm. Please call our office at 371-4790 at your earliest possible time. Failure to either obtain a COA for recent alterations or replacement of original materials can result in referral of this mater to the Prosecution Division of the Office of the City Attorney for enforcement proceedings. Attached is a PDF of a receipt we received from George Moore, the man who repaired the steps on the front of our house.
