Re: Roof Replacement Project,
1881 Cherry House, 700 Rock Street, Little Rock
Dear Mr. Minyard:
We received your email asking to clarify the issues presented regarding the
above referenced project. We received an HPRG application for the above
referenced property to replace the roof on the building. The project materials
and methodology presented in the application and the letter to you for the
Certificate of Appropriateness are the same. Below are the answers to your
questions in order.
Is this an appropriate roof for this property?
Our National Register Coordinator Ralph Wilcox, said that the asphalt
shingles that simulate the look of the original slate roof will not negatively
impact the Cherry House's eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of
Historic Places.
Is this an appropriate roof for a property with an economic hardship?
Yes, as it simulates the look of the original slate roofing material.
«ate
tea,, 5Have they applied for an HPRG grant, and if so, when will it be announced?
They have applied for an HPRG grant proposing the same materials and
methodology outlined in their application for a Certificate of Appropriateness.
We expect to announce the list of grant recipients in early June 2016.
Would this roof disqualify them from getting a grant?
323 Center Street, Suite 1500
Little Rock, AR 72201
No. In this case the original slate material is prohibitively expensive for the
(501) 324-9880 applicant, as well as our organization for the matching funds for the estimated
fax: (tdd) 711 9184 total project cost of $187,785. The estimated costs of the architectural shingle

roof and decking are $91,740. They have requested $61,160 from our
