Subject: July 17 Agenda comments
AII:
Since I will be out of town (for a funeral) on July 17, I want to mention several thoughts on the agenda
packets:
*Agenda Item #1: Should the motion -activated security lights have a shield, to point light down?
Are aluminum gutters OK? Should the eaves/soffits be wood, or at least HardiBoard, instead of aluminum?
Should the painted wood porch railings be required, both for aesthetics and safety? Should future placement of
satellite dishes be specified, or else return for COA?
Concerning the overall designs of the proposed new houses, I find that the staff recommendations and
subsequent changes on roof pitch/design much more consistent with the neighborhood and hope they are
accepted. I am concerned with the arbitrary placement of windows on the sides of the buildings and hope some
changes will be specified. Overall, I think this is an excellent example of staff working with a builder to arrive at
quite admirable additions to the MacArthur Park Historic District.
*Agenda Item #2: All staff recommendations seem to agree with our past discussions.
*Minutes of June 2, 2005 meeting: In the Action Section for 1400 S. Cumberland, paragraphs three and five
have incomplete sentences & thoughts. Neither my memory nor notes shed any light on possible completions. I
hope you all fare better.
The new format for Minutes is an amazing improvement over previous ones! I applaud staff for this effort,
which should minimize any future questions about HDC decisions. The same comment is true for the Staff
Reports and Recommendations. They should make much easier the formation of motions for COAs.
*Agenda Meeting: Are the By -Laws being deferred again? What wording will be used to clarify that an
applicant for COA is indeed in control of the property? I'll be interested to learn about new reports.
Again, I apologize for this unavoidable conflict. However, I'm sure Marshall and you all will carry on quite
well!
Carolyn
