RE: MacArthur Park Historic District
Certificate of Appropriateness
American Legion Post No. 1
Parking Lot
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the above referenced application
for a Certificate of Appropriateness.
The staff of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) has worked with
Ms. Norwood on the development of plans for the proposed parking lot, as requested
by the MacArthur Park Historic District Commission and is pleased to be able
to recommend that the Commission approves the request for a Certifi ate of
Appropriateness. While we feel that both Option 1 and Option II address the
concerns voiced by the Commission, the Quapaw Quarter Association and our
office we recommend Option 2 because of the additional plant material employed
in the design. The use of additional plant material is allowed through ommitting
lighting within the parking lot. We have observed this parking lot at night and
additional lighting is not needed.
If you, or any of the Commission members have any questions regarding our recommendation
please contact Bill Hall of my staff at 371-2763.
Sincerely,
Wilson Stiles
