Dear Mike,
The Quapaw Quarter Association would like to make a recommendation
to the MacArthur Park Historic District Commission regarding the
American Legion Post No.1 parking lot and request for reconsideration.
After careful thought and consideration, the QQA recommends the
granting of this request for reconsideration.
The QQA believes the underground sprinkler system proposed by
the American Legion would be especially helpful in assuring
the proper maintenance of the landscaping. We believe this
substitution of the sprinkler for the board fence, at the very
least, is worth considering.
In the letter dated Feb. 17, 1987, addressed to you on behalf of
the Commission, the American Legion Post No. 1 has stated their
request for reconsideration should be construed as a concerted
cooperative effort.
The QQA believes that if there is even a shred of hope that a workable
compromise can be reached - a plan that is satisfactory to all parties -
then it would be unwise to close the door to this possibility.
We appreciate the Commission's zeal for protecting the integrity of
the MacArthur Park Historic District. We would like to appeal to
your nobler motives and to your fairness. We feel that it would be
advisable and reasonable to at least grant the request for reconsideration.
As Executive Director, it was my understanding that the request for
a recommendation from the QQA was for the purpose of the issue
at hand - whether or not to grant the request for reconsideration.
If the request is granted, we would be happy to make additional
recommendations on the plan itself.
Sincerely,
Charlotte Wilson Johnson
Executive Director
