Dear Mike:
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Quapaw Quarter
Association, thank you for providing us the opportunity to comment
on the proposed construction of a four -unit condominium complex
at 1304 South Cumberland.
The Quapaw Quarter Association wants to encourage high -
quality infill construction in the MacArthur Park Historic District,
and we are delighted that the Renaissance Corporation is interested
in undertaking such construction. As you know, we have expressed
some reservations about the proposed project being oriented toward
the north, rather than toward the street on the east. Recent
changes made in the project's design have given it a more definite
"street presence," and we believe that the overall design is
sympathetic to its historic surroundings in materials, scale, and
proportions. Consequently, the QQA recommends that the Historic
District Commission approve a certificate of appropriateness for
the project.
