MEMORANDUM
TO: Charles Toland, Permits Administrator (Fax # 6863)
FROM: V. Anne Guthrie, Historic Preservation Administrator
DATE: 4 November 2002
SUBJECT: Permit for 1018 Cumberland Street
This memo serves as administrative approval from the Little Rock Historic District
Commission (LRHDC) allowing the contractor of 1018 Cumberland permission to obtain a
building permit. I understand that the permit is to install a new composition shingled roof.
Since the structure is located within the MacArthur Park Historic District, exterior work comes
under the LRHDC's jurisdiction; the existing roof is composition shingle and will be replaced
with composition. Routine maintenance is allowed within the local ordinance historic district
with administrative approval. The repairs should be performed in conformance to the structure:
♦ the proposed work will not alter the existing footprint, outline, profile,
composition or change the configuration
♦ there will be no change to the roof slope and no introduction of new
architectural detailing or materials
♦ the work will duplicate the existing in terms of shape, configuration, details,
profile and materials
As such, and meeting all city, building and health regulations, the application for a building
permit should be approved. If exterior changes or improvements are made that require a
Certificate of Appropriateness (COA), staff will be notified and appropriate actions taken for a
public hearing. Refer to the application instructions or the Design Review Guidelines:
MacArthur Park Historic District for necessity of obtaining a COA.
