Little Rack, AR 72116 • (501) 812-4500 September 7, 2010 Little Rock Historic District Commission 723 West Markham Street Little Rock, AR 72201 Dear Honorable Members of the Historic District Commission, SEP 0 B 2J10 My name is Dr. Rene' Sparrow. I am an acupuncturist in North Little Rock. I have owned the property at 1107 Cumberland for eight years. It is a rental property. It has come to my attention just recently, that we are in the McArthur Park Historical District and we are supposed to go through an approval process for any exterior changes. I would like to extend my apologies; I had no idea that was the correct protocol. it was my understanding that In order to be a part of the Historical District we had to #ill out paperwork and be approved. Brian Mlnyard with the tepartment of Planning and Development contacted us about some exterior changes we had made to the property and gave us information about how to correctly apply for a certificate of appropriateness. I would like to add that Mr. Minyard has been very knowledgeable and helpful to us with this process. He is an asset to his department. The changes I had done to the property concern the soffit and Fascia. The original woad was rotted and falling down. The building is quite tall and it is difficult to find workers with a ladder that tall that can maintain the guttering. At the advice of our contractor we opted for vinyl soffit and aluminum fascia. We also added a seamless gutter system with leaf free screens, so that we do not have the rotted wood problem in the future. The work was done by Arkansas Windows and Siding LLC and they did an excellent job. The soffit was installed to look just like the original woad. It has improved the appearance of the building without taking away from the historical integrity of the building. The total cost a the project was $3661,00.1 would like to ask the boar d for permission to keep the changes that were made. I will comply fully in any future improvements to the exterior Of the building. I am proud of the many wonderful changes taking place downtown and 1 know now that it is due in no small part to your hard work and diligence. It has a$ways been my intention to keep the building's interior and exterior consistent with the Craftsman style design. Thank you for your consideration to this matter. Sincerely, 17, Dr. Rene' Sparrow Cover Letter
