Regarding: 923 Cumberland - Siding Application
Dear Mrs. Butler:
Please be informed that on March 3, 1994 the Little Rock Historic District Commission denied
the application for a certificate of appropriateness for installation of vinyl siding to your
structures at 923 Cumberland Street.
The Historic District Commission has approved the application of vinyl siding on the side and
rear facades of a few "test cases" in the district that were not visible from the street. However,
the Scott House being on a corner makes all facades visible from the street. Also, the Scott
House has many unusual architectural details that should not be covered with vinyl or aluminum
material.
I have enclosed a brochure Preservation Brief published by the Department of Interior that
parallels the commission's standing on the issue of siding.
Please let me know if you have questions or need further assistance.
Sincerely,
Molly Satterfield
Historic Preservation Administrator
