SUBJECT: OLD FIRE STATION AT MACARTHUR PARK
DATE: NOVEMBER 2, 1998
There has been interest by the MacArthur Park Neighborhood Association to
develop a neighborhood alert center in the old fire station on the west side of
MacArthur Park. Staff has reviewed this request and determined that the
establishment of an alert center at this site is not feasible. The City is not
expanding the alert center program.
Staff has looked a several options for the building and has concluded that the site
will best serve the needs of the Arts and Humanities Program and the
Department of Parks and Recreation. Park staff has already begun repairing the
building and has scheduled several after -school arts programs at the location.
Having regular activity at the site will provide a presence in the neighborhood.
The presence of children and adults alike will benefit the area. As the arts
program grows; it is possible that the facility will be used everyday by many
humanities groups from around central Arkansas.
