TO: Charles Toland, Permits Administrator
FROM: V. Anne Guthrie, Historic Preservation Administrator
DATE: 1 November 2000
SUBJECT: Permit for 1004 Commerce
This memo serves as administrative approval from the Little Rock Historic District
Commission (LRHDC) allowing the contractor for 1004 Commerce permission to obtain a
permit; I understand that the permit is to replace a cedar shingle roof with a roof of the same
material. Since the structure is located within the MacArthur Park Historic District, exterior work
comes under the LRHDC's jurisdiction. Routine maintenance is allowed within the local
ordinance historic district with administrative approval, and re -roofing is classified as routine
maintenance. The repairs should be performed in conformance to the structure:
♦ the proposed work will not alter the existing footprint, outline, profile,
composition or change the configuration
♦ there will be no change to the roof slope and no introduction of new
architectural detailing or materials
As such, and meeting all city, building and health regulations, the application for a permit should
be approved. If exterior changes or improvements are made that require a Certificate of
Appropriateness (COA), staff will be notified and appropriate actions taken for a public hearing.
Refer to the application instructions or the Design Review Guidelines: MacArthur Park
Historic District for necessity of obtaining a COA.
