Dear Commissioners:
The Quapaw Quarter Association recommends that the Historic District
Commission grant the application of Allen Smith for a Certificate of
Appropriateness to move the structure at 1016 Commerce out of the
district.
It is the Association's viewpoint that, in the absence of minimum
maintenance requirements for the district, it is preferable to move the
structure rather than to allow it to continue to deteriorate. Further,
the QQA feels that a favorable action by the Commission may stipulate
that the current owner of 1016 Commerce replace the moved structure and
the adjacent non -conforming structure with a building more sensitive to
the district. (Replacing the structure at 1016 Commerce and the adjacent
brick ranch -style house on the corner lot with a new building has
evidently always been the current owner's intention.)
