RE: 1020 Commerce Street
Certificate of Appropriateness
Dear Molly:
Thank you for giving the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) the
opportunity to comment on the above referenced request for a Certificate of
Appropriateness.
We have reviewed the applicant's request to initially construct a guest
house/shop at the site (after the structure at 1016 Commerce has been moved
to its new site), followed by the construction of a main residence on the
site currently occupied by the existing house at 1020 Commerce. It is our
opinion that the Historic District Commission should grant this request,
with the suggestion that the applicant make some effort to break up the
large expanse of roof on the main residence by adding dormers to the east
and south elevations, at least.
We commend the applicant on the overall design of both of the proposed
buildings, as they are in keeping with the scale and setting of the
historic district.
If you or any of the commissioners have any questions regarding this
letter, please contact Angela Meeks of my staff at 371-2763.
Sincerely,
Cathy Buf rd
