Re: Parking Lots for Curran Hall Visitor Center
Dear Mr. Travis:
I haven't had any comments from you or the rest of the group since my letter of May 17`h,
so we are assuming that the parking lot layouts are okay and we will send for Planning
and Historic Commission approval. We did have a comment from our Planning
Department that the interior islands on the Sixth and Ferry lot had to be enlarged to
comply with the Landscape Ordinance and the driveway width had to be narrowed.
Enclosed is a plan showing these changes. Please note that enlarging the islands caused
us to lose one car parking space, so we now have 14.
Also enclosed is our tentative schedule of key dates in order to meet your desired August
I' opening. Although the schedule is lamely self-explanatory, take particular note that
we plan to advertise the work on May 29` , open bids Rune 1 It", and award the contract on
June 10'. This will allow Planning and Historic Commission approval before work
begins and provide the contractor about 30-35 days to construct. This is an extremely
tight schedule, but doable with a little luck.
Landscaping and irrigation plans will not be ready by May 291h, so we will probably only
initially bid the grading, parking lots and sidewalks. We don't foresee that to be a big
problem, however, because the landscaping and irrigation usually trails this work.
Finally, enclosed is a detailed estimate for the entire work of almost $268,000. We will
need to know how the contractor will be paid prior to award.
Give me a call if you have any questions or comments.
