Emergency Grant funding to the following situation. The above referenced structure is on the National Register of Historic Places (U.S. Department of the Interior) and has received one of the first Quapaw Quarter Plaques. Construction of the home began in 1842 and it was originally intended as the home of Colonel Ebenezar Walters. The current owner/occupant's grandmother (Bell) purchased the home in later years. This house is one of the three or four oldest existing residential structures in Little ---Rock. Our department has maintained a Housing Code file concerning repairs needed for this structure since 1975. The home has deteriorated since that time. In June 1987, it was noted that the east wall (brick) of the structure was beginning to collapse and this has worsened over the past few years, remaining unrepaired. The owner and sole occupant is apparently of limited financial capability to make a repair of this nature. If the deteriorated masonary wall(s) could be repaired, this might serve to protect and preserve this important historic home from additional damage resulting from inclement weather. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you need additional information, please contact me at 371-4876. Sincerely, foseph LMcCain, Environmental Codes Enforcement Officer cc: Jim Hathcock, Chief of Environmental Codes p,-Mblly Satterfield, MacArthur Park Historic District
