Re: Cashion Company Addition
501 Sherman
Little Rock, Arkansas
Dear Mike:
May 14, 1987
As architect for the above project for the Cashion Company, I would like to
offer an explanation of their request and a description of the proposed
addition to their office building.
First, the Cashion Company, a Little Rock insurance company, built and
occupied their present building in the Fall of 1980. (I was also the
architect for this project.) The building was planned to accommodate ten
years growth, but as good fortune would have it, they completely filled the
building within seven years. Now, they are in urgent need of space, and
would like to construct another four thousand square feet. The present
building will house most of the executive private offices, and the addition
will be basically a column free space suitable for open -office work stations
(which is typical of insurance company needs).
The addition is planned to be constructed on the lot to the east which is
occupied by an apartment house, owned by the my clients. This plan
anticipates razing the existing house to construct the new structure.
The new structure will be architecturally "secondary" to the existing
building. The main entrance will still be on the Sherman Street side and the
new building addition will be a continuation of the style of the present
building, but more restrained in form. The addition will be sited using the
same front yard setback from East Capitol as the present house structure and
the present office building, continuing the streetscape. The same brick
(still available) will be used on the addition, as well as similar detailing
and window treatment. In short, the new structure will aiietly blend with
the existin office building while serving to continue and reinforce the
street facade along East Capitol the only street exposure of the building).

To the south of the building, four parking spaces will be added, accessed
fran the current parking lot. Generous landscaping will be incorporated on
site, as was done in the first project.
I hope this generally explains the project. Please feel free to request any
other necessary information. The Cashion Company is most anxious of
"getting -on" with the project and sees it as the way for them to remain a
resident of this developing neighborhood.
Sincerely,
t
