HomeMy WebLinkAboutHDC1987-002 Letter To the Commissioners From Quapaw Quarter Association 05/27/1987QUAPAW QUARTER ASSOCIATION Greater Little Rock's historic preservation organization May 27, 1987 MacArthur Park Historic District Commission c/o Mike Dooley Department of Comprehensive Planning City Hall Annex Little Rock, AR 72201 Dear Commissioners: The Quapaw Quarter Association recommends that the MacArthur Park Historic District Commission deny the application of The Cashion Company for demolition of the historically significant Bossinger House at 609- 611 East Capitol. This house stands on the edge of the MacArthur Park district in an area where historic structures are particularly vulnerable. Demolition at this site would erode the district boundaries and place the district in jeopardy. The Bossinger House was built in 1896 and is a well- preserved example of Queen Anne style architecture. The QQA is convinced that the Cashion Company could restore this beautiful structure and join it to their current office space next door. It could be a neigh - hood landmark, making it an asset to any business. Although we encourage businesses to locate in the Quapaw Quarter and we do not want to force the Cashion Company to move, the QQA,, believes that demolition of this house is not the only solution to the company's need for more office space. Again, the QQA strongly opposes this demolition and urges the Commission to deny the application. Sin ere--lyyj,' .e ct Gc CC.0 0;eanette Krohn Executive Director 1315•-South Scott a P.O. Box 1104 .
