W. "Buddy" Villines • 203 City Hall 500 West Markham Little Rock, Arkansas 72201 Dear Mayor Villines: The Quapaw Quarter Association must protest the destruction of the historic house at 609-611 East Capitol Avenue located in the MacArthur Park Historic District. We were aware of the total disregard the Cashion Company had for the home because of their request for a demolition permit before the MacArthur Park Historic District Commission two years ago. The Commission, whose duty it is to protect these structures,,rightly denied their application and encouraged them to include the home in their developmental plans which was also an option given them by their very own architects. Now it appears the City of Little Rock has joined their efforts and "mistakenly" issued a demolition permit, completely bypassing the Commission. Knowing the attitude of the Cashion Company toward the house and the speed with which their demolition was carried out, one senses that perhaps there was some under the table dealings. If the City does actually value its historic districts, then it must do everything possible to ensure that the proper procedures for issuing permits are followed by the City's agencies. If the City is to maintain its credibility, it must also ascertain that this was an honest mistake and not an "error" resulting in someone's personal monetary gain. 1315 South Scott . P. O.
