My name is Dero Sanford. I am the proud owner and operator an airbnb in the Pettaway neighborhood
called, “The Layover”. I started this 250 square foot airbnb in the fall of 2019. Right afterwards, Covid hit
and my work came to a halt. Thanks to this, I was able to get by until my work picked up again.
In the past five years, I have maintained a 5 star rating with over 1000 reviews, guided visitors to local
restaurants, tourist spots, and partnered with local businesses to offer discounts to guests. I am thrilled
to meet people traveling through and tell them our little secret… Little Rock is awesome! I see my airbnb
not only as an alternative to traditional places to stay but a gateway to the insights into Little Rock.
Currently, my airbnb contributes about an average of $500 in occupancy taxes to Little Rock per month.
I believe that this helps our local government contribute to the growth of the area and am happy to
participate in it’s improvements. I also believe that Little Rock’s research and planning into regulating
STR-1 has been a testament to getting it right. I agree to the rules, inspections, and any other guidelines
that create a quality control while limiting the flood of out of town investors which stifles locals
purchasing homes.
