Downtown Police Substation
Cumberland and Capitol
The property at the southeast corner of Cumberland and Capitol is being
developed as a Downtown Police Substation. This 50' x 75' piece of land will
contain a 1500 square foot building, eight parking spaces and a 600 square
foot fenced outdoor storage area.
The building is located near the north and west property lines to provide good
visibility from citizens on both Cumberland and Capitol streets. The
north west corner entrance wall is angled and is primarily glass. The
remainder of the building's exterior is stone and brick with high glass
providing natural light. Security and privacy are of primary importance in this
building along with a desire for high visibility and a welcoming entry. The
roof is a clay tile material and provides a wider overhand at the northwest
corner entrance for added protection of citizens from the weather. The roof
profile and building proportions are similar to adjacent new buildings as well
as the older nearby buildings in the neighborhood. Street trees will be added
along the west property line and the sidewalk in this area will be upgraded to
match the paving across Capitol at the River Cities Travel Center.
